NY Times on the growth of mobile coupons
September 1st, 2009
The shift in consumer attitudes about phones becoming financial access devices is aided by the growth of mobile promotions. Mobile coupons are “already sitting on your phone,” and the ease-of-use is getting noticed. “Snipping out coupons from the weekend paper is still the most common way households in the United States get their coupons, but the popularity of coupons delivered via e-mail and text messages is growing. In the first half of 2009, nearly 10 million digital coupons were redeemed, a 25 percent increase over the amount redeemed during the same period in 2008, according to Inmar, a coupon-processing company.” Services that aggregate mobile coupons for consumers are popular with some, and are beginning to employ location-based data so that offers can be received if you’re a few blocks from a store.
