The US Patent and Trademark Office has recently published an extensive patent application, seemingly for the 3G iPhone and software version 2.0, both now expected to be released next Monday. Features detailed: IM and blogging applications, Video Conferencing (with front-facing camera), etc.
Softbank, the 3rd largest carrier in Japan, was chosen to be the Apple iPhone carrier today. It actually surprised me that Apple didn’t go with NTT DoCoMo because NTT DoCoMo is supposed to be much bigger.
Analysts said the tie-up was likely to give Softbank an advantage over its larger rivals. The iPhone will also complement Softbank’s wider mobile and internet strategy, said Tokyo-based Macquarie analyst Nathan Ramler.
It is not the first time the Softbank and Apple brands have linked up in Japan. In 2006 Softbank sold iPods together with phones as a set.
You can read the whole article here. The bottom line: if you live in Japan, your iPhone is coming!
Not sure how many of you guys have seen this, but LG actually has a phone called the Prada phone that is very similar to the Apple iPhone. In fact, they were both announced a couple days apart from each other. Which one came first? That’s up for debate and for you to decide.
Regardless, here’s a demo on YouTube. I know this phone isn’t new anymore. I know people have had it in Asia for a long time now, but it’s not nearly as popular over here in the US. Check it out:
Of course. It makes sense. Why buy an iPhone now if you know that a new, better, and faster one will come out in a month?
“Nearly one-in-four potential iPhone buyers said that they have been putting off their purchase until Apple rolls out a next-generation model that supports the faster 3G data network, a market researcher said today.” Read the whole article on MacWorld.
Ever since Apple came out with the iPhone, the #1 complaint has been the fact that it’s not 3G. It’s true. Almost all the other Smartphones out there are already running on the much faster 3G network, so why would I want a phone that’s slower than my friend’s?
Anyway, the 3G iPhone should be here soon. Only a few weeks (or months) away!
In a nutshell, this is what Google said on their own Google blog:
“Today we’re releasing a new beta version of Reader designed for the iPhone and other mobile phones with advanced browsers. You can use it by visiting http://www.google.com/reader/i/ on your phone.”
I just tried it on my Blackjack and it didn’t work. There’s a good chance that it’s because, well, I am using a Blackjack. People that use Windows Mobile should know that not a lot of stuff actually work on our phones, so I am not too surprised.
The screen shots of the new Reader looks pretty good though. I am sure you iPhone people would love it.
So much for the iPhone black = the new 3G iPhone as shown on the AT&T site. Supposedly, AT&T said that it was only a “placeholder”.
In case you didn’t get to read the previous article, there was a new “iPhone black” option on the AT&T site today. A lot of people got really excited, thinking that it’s the new 3G iphone that’s rumored to have a black casing (hence the iPhone black).
Anyway, so much for that. It was just a “typo”. Sorry. The error was reported on Gizmodo.
