Mobile Security is becoming more and more important as our world tansitions into a wireless one, so I thought I’d show this new security feautre that Sprint has come up with. I have to say it looks pretty effective…
Less than a month ago, Harrah’s Entertainment and Microsoft Corp. placed their newly developed product, called Microsoft Surface, in a Las Vegas internet cafe/bar called iBar. The product itself is a 30inch table-like display that allows individuals, or even groups of people, the opportunity to interact with objects and computer applications through touch. No mice or keyboards required. The other remarkable thing is that the surface can recognize objects and devices that are placed on it, from a basic water glass to cameras and phones. Through the Microsoft Surface interface, digital information on electronic devices can be taken out and manipulated, and even transferred from one device to another. It’s a pretty hard idea to grasp, and I’m sure I didn’t do the best job explaining either, so I found a promotional video below to help out…
Apparently Microsoft is only selling these things commercially right now- At&t wireless stores are also among the group that currently use Microsoft Surface. You can go into a store and compare At&t cell phones by simply placing the two onto the table surface. It will recognize the phone models and display all their information automatically! Its such a cool concept; I can’t wait until they open it up to the public.
We all figured there will be some consolidation in the mobile industry eventually. It seems like it might become a reality soon. The Wall Street Journal reported a couple days ago (I know I am a little late on this one, sorry) that Deutsche Telekom, the parent of T-Mobile, is thinking about acquiring Sprint Nextel. If that happens, they will become the biggest carrier in the US! You can see the article on AOL Money.
There are a few things that might become somewhat complicated if this happens though. For one, integrating the technologies will be pretty challenging. T-Mobile runs on the GSM network, whereas Sprint Nextel is on CDMA with Java. The two networks are completely opposite like fire and ice, water and oil, donuts and oranges (sorry, ran out of analogies for the last one there).
This will still be very interesting though. We could be seeing some big changes happening in the near future!
“Verizon Communications Monday reported first-quarter adjusted earnings of $1.74 billion, or 61 cents a share, in line with the mean estimate of analysts polled by Thomson Reuters.
In the same period a year earlier, the company earned $1.63 billion, or 56 cents a share, including discontinued operations.
Revenue totaled $23.83 billion in the latest three months, up 5.5% from $22.58 billion in the same period a year earlier, and below Wall Street’s consensus estimate of $23.86 billion.
The Dow component’s wireless division said it had 1.5 million net customer additions in the quarter, bringing total customers to 67.2 million. Revenue from the company’s wireless division totaled $11.7 billion, up 13.2% year-over-year. Total churn for the business was 1.19%.”
Need more unsubstantiated evidence that the 3G iPhone is near. Good, the Chinese language Commercial Times is quoting sources claiming that Foxconn — the maker of the 1st gen iphone — is ramping up 3G iPhone assembly by “the end of May” to ship 3 million units in June.
